LHS Senior Wrestler and Stanford Commit Jarrett Smith Nominated for DACF Athlete of the Year
It’s been a busy spring for LHS senior Jarrett Smith, and that’s without running it back on the Lowell Golf team this year.
The three-time individual state champion and future Stanford Cardinal will be Lowell’s valedictorian this year. He’s a four-time team state champion as well with the wrestling program and even hosted his own youth wrestling summer camp last year.
Now, he joins former Red Arrow wrestler Jackson Blum (Class of 2025), as one of the few to be nominated for the Detroit Athletic Club Foundation Athlete of the Year. Only twelve individuals, six boys and six girls, across the entire state, across all sports, get nominated.
Below is the list of student-athletes nominated for the award which is announced in a ceremony on June 1st. The ceremony will be streamed on YouTube.
Boys Nominees
• Ayden Cook – Flint Powers (Hockey)
• Blake Cosby – Dundee (Wrestling)

The former Fargo champion noted that the major accomplishment is something that really will stick with him from his high school years beyond his success at LHS. Fargo is the most prestigious youth wrestling tournament in the country.
“It’s the biggest high school tournament in the country,” Jarrett Smith told State Champs! Sports Network. “It really helped put me on the map.”
Last years winners were Bryce Underwood (Belleville) who of course went on to play football at the University of Michigan, and Farmington Mercy’s Campbell Flynn who joined national powerhouse Nebraska Volleyball. Jackson Blum who was nominated last year went on to wrestle at Indiana, where he’s shown tremendous potential at the collegiate level.
