641 New Boys Golf Rounds Added to LHS Golf Record Board

When the Lowell Red Arrows historical archive was being constructed in 2017-2018, it was local newspaper archives, yearbooks, and school records that were available. At the time, Grand Rapids Press archives were not immediately available.

Now that they are, a deep dive into the GR Press archives has uncovered 641 new rounds, bring the Lowell High School boys golf round number to a total of 2,755 rounds from the program’s first season in 1965 to present day.

Where the added rounds came from

  • 1965–1985: 148 rounds — 23%

    Significant adds 1977, 1978, 1984

  • 1986–1999: 167 rounds — 26%

    Significant adds 1988 and across the board when available.

  • 2000–2009: 149 rounds — 23%

    Significant adds 2008.

  • 2010–2019: 181 rounds — 28%.

    Significant adds 2018, 2019, 2015.

  • 2020–2026: N/A, all were up to date.

By the Numbers

  • 2,755 varsity rounds documented in the updated Lowell boys golf record book

  • 641 rounds added during the latest historical research project

  • 1,747 nine-hole rounds

  • 1,008 eighteen-hole rounds

  • 250 different Lowell golfers represented

  • 60 different seasons documented, spanning 1965 through 2026

  • 252 nine-hole rounds under 40

  • 32 — the lowest nine-hole score in the records, shot by Jerud Joynt in 1990. Was on a par 34 course (Ironwood)

  • 33 - lowest official nine-hole record shot by Jon Vezino in 1981 at Deer Run, a par 36.

  • 70 — the lowest eighteen-hole score, shot by Brandon Poll at the 2013 district tournament
