Brody Lehman Commits to Northern Michigan University for Football
Lowell senior Brody Lehman has officially committed to continue his football career at Northern Michigan University, joining the Wildcats at the Division II level and joining former Red Arrow Casey Engle up in Marquette.
Lehman’s football story began at a young age, with his family at the center of it all. His father has been a constant presence, introducing him to the game and coaching him throughout his life, pushing him to improve while supporting him every step of the way. His mother has been just as influential, serving as his biggest supporter since his flag football days and rarely missing a game.
Brody was a part of this year’s semifinal run along with his younger brother Bryce. Brody plated safety for the Red Arrows and at 6’3”, 200 lbs, was offered by NMU on January 20th and commiting on January 31st.
“Our play off run this last year was special,” Lehman said. “I’ve never been closer to a group of guys and coaches in my life and it was truly a special feeling going that far for the first time in a while and putting Lowell football back on the map. It really shows what can happen when you put in the work and put trust into your coaches.”
He spent much of last summer traveling to camps to get his name out, earning several Division III offers along the way. As the high school season progressed, Division II interest began to grow, though nothing felt like the right fit. Northern Michigan University was not initially at the top of his list, especially as the program prepared for a coaching transition late in the season.
That changed quickly. Following a visit to another school, Lehman received a text from NMU’s new defensive coordinator, Coach Ryan Bright which helped push him toward his eventual commitment.
Northern Michigan ultimately stood out for several reasons. The new coaching staff made an immediate impression with their experience, energy, and genuine approach. Lehman was also struck by the facilities, from the renovated weight room and locker room to the moment he first stepped inside the Superior Dome, one of the most unique venues in college football. Conversations with current players further reinforced the culture being built in Marquette was one that Lehman wanted to play in and one that mirrored that built at Lowell.
NMU went 3-8 last year, but won three of their last five games with wins over Wayne State, Roosevelt, and a 4OT win over Davenport.
