Coach Judd

Saturday was a full day at Lowell High School as the school prepared for prom and honored longtime coach and teacher Kathy Talus with the Kathy Talus Memorial Track Invitational.

Talus coached the Lowell girls track program for 25 years and continued to lead with courage while battling cancer during many of those years. The meet named in her honor brought strong competition, near-perfect weather and a solid showing from the Red Arrows.

Caledonia won the team title with 104 points, followed by Hudsonville with 94. Lowell finished third with 54 points, ahead of Byron Center and Grand Rapids Northview.

The Red Arrows earned 13 medals in the 15-event format and were led by a standout day from Olivia Lothian, who picked up a pair of personal records while helping Lowell score in multiple field events.

Lothian won two individual events, clearing 11 feet in the pole vault and jumping 15 feet, 2 inches in the long jump. She teamed with Brynne Schmuker to win the pole vault relay, joined Lauren Harrington to finish second in the long jump relay and closed the day by tying for second in the high jump relay with Ashley Pohl.

Kendall Schmuker placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.34.
