This week's Rogers Neighborhood Realty seniors of the week are Jackson Pelletier and Bella Calhoun. Both have found that getting involved and meeting new people have made their time at Lowell High School more meaningful. As they look toward graduation, they are making the most of their final year with friends while exploring what comes next.

This feature is sponsored by Rogers Neighborhood Realty, and we couldn’t do it without them!

Jackson Pelletier has taken advantage of a wide range of opportunities at Lowell. He participates in marching band, basketball band, Symphony Winds and Percussion, NHS, Model UN, Radio Club, the LHS Leadership and Character Development Course, Science Olympiad and Journal Club.

The teacher who nominated Pelletier praised the participation, intelligence and wit he brings to class, along with his commitment to working out at the local YMCA.

For Pelletier, the people he has met are what make school fun. He is especially proud of the friendships he has built since middle school.

“I am the most proud of the circle of friends I’ve grown over the past few years,” Pelletier said. “I went from only a few in middle school and I’ve grown to be friends with a wide range of people.”

He credits Mr. Haan with having the greatest influence on his high school experience. Pelletier has had his class every trimester and has spent additional time with him through after-school clubs.

“He’s a great guy to talk to, and I’ve learned a lot from him,” Pelletier said.

High school has also taught Pelletier that he can accomplish things he once thought were out of reach. Putting in time at the gym has brought him closer to his fitness goals, while reaching out to others has helped him build the larger group of friends he hoped for.

Pelletier has also earned national recognition in the classroom, being named a National Merit Semifinalist. It puts him in a select group: semifinalists represent less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors and are among the highest-scoring students in each state on the PSAT/NMSQT.

For the rest of senior year, he wants to keep learning in his classes, continue going to the gym and spend time with friends. After graduation, he plans to attend college to study microbiology.

His advice to younger students is to try the opportunities available to them.

“Take advantage of everything the school has to offer,” Pelletier said. “High school is the perfect time to try new things, and you’ll never know how great something will be until you try.”

Pelletier also wants to thank his parents for supporting him throughout his life and helping him become the person he is today.

Bella Calhoun has made the most of her time at Lowell High School through softball, school leadership and community involvement. She participates in Student Council, Youth Advisory Council and National Honor Society, serves as the student section leader for the 2026-2027 school year and was on Homecoming Court this fall.

The teacher who nominated Calhoun praised her leadership, softball accomplishments, community service and work in the classroom.

Her favorite parts of high school have been building relationships with teachers and classmates and making memories while playing softball with her friends. She is especially proud of maintaining a high GPA while taking challenging classes.

“I think this reflects the challenging course load I have taken as well as my work ethic in order to earn those good grades,” Calhoun said.

The upperclassmen she looked up to as a freshman and sophomore have had the greatest influence on her high school experience. Now, she hopes to have that same positive impact on younger students.

“They had a very big impact on who I turned out to be today,” Calhoun said.

High school has also taught her to stay true to her values rather than worry about pleasing everyone. For the rest of senior year, she wants to stay active as a student section leader at different sporting events and enjoy time with friends before they head in different directions.

After graduation, Calhoun plans to study either business management or international business. She has not decided where to attend college, but Central Michigan University is her top option.

Her advice to younger Lowell students is to take advantage of dual enrollment classes. She particularly enjoys the flexibility of taking a fifth-hour dual enrollment class and being able to leave school early.

“Getting to leave early honestly might be the best part of my senior year,” Calhoun said.
