Our seniors of the week this week are Landon George and Lindsey Plumley. From pursuing a future in the kitchen to helping classmates feel welcome, both have found ways to make the most of their time at Lowell High School.

This feature is sponsored by Rogers Neighborhood Realty, and we couldn’t do it without them!

Landon George

Landon George has a clear idea of where he wants his interest in cooking to take him. After graduation, he plans to attend culinary school and pursue a career as a private chef.

For now, he is building those skills while enjoying the time he has left at Lowell. The teacher who nominated George noted that he is enrolled in two culinary courses through KCTC and described him as an “exceptionally kind young man” who pursues his passions.

“My goal is to refine my skills in culinary and just have fun in my time left at school,” George said.

Athletics have also been a big part of his high school experience. George is currently involved in wrestling and lacrosse and previously participated on the shooting and football teams. His favorite part of Lowell has been the sporting events he has attended and participated in.

When asked about his proudest accomplishment, George pointed to how much he has grown as a person and a student. Along the way, he has also discovered that he is more creative than he had realized.

He credits his friends with helping him reach this point.

“I don’t have one specific person, but all of my friends have been there to help me get to where I am now,” George said.

As he looks ahead to culinary school, George’s advice to younger students is to take advantage of the experiences available to them at Lowell.

“Have fun in high school, go to the school events, and make the most of your time there.”

Lindsey Plumley

For Lindsey Plumley, being involved at Lowell has meant finding friends, developing as a leader and learning how to help others feel included.

Plumley plays soccer and participates in National Honor Society, LINKS advisory, LINKS Unified Sports and Women’s Club. She also serves as a student ambassador, adding another way to connect with the people who have made high school meaningful to her.

“The people definitely make Lowell so great, the community we have is something amazing to be a part of,” Plumley said.

Her teacher’s nomination described her as inclusive and friendly with everyone in the school, as well as honest and hardworking. That emphasis on making others feel welcome is something Plumley has worked to develop during high school.

“Something I have learned about myself is how to include others within the school, and make sure everyone feels like they belong,” she said.

Plumley is especially proud of the leadership opportunities she has had, including being invited to leadership conferences and serving as the soccer coach for the Unified Olympics. Maintaining good grades is another accomplishment she values.

Several teachers and coaches have helped shape her experience. She credits Mrs. Cichocki with creating a welcoming environment through her personality and care for students, and Mrs. Ayala with pushing her to do difficult things. She also appreciates the girls soccer coaching staff’s commitment to each player.

Those experiences have helped Plumley recognize that she wants to be a leader and set an example for others. After graduation, she hopes to attend college close to home and study elementary education, with the goal of teaching students from preschool through fourth grade.

Before then, she wants to keep meeting people and trying things she has not done before.

“I want senior year to be the year of new things!” Plumley said.

Her advice to younger Lowell students is to get involved, even if they are worried about what others might think. The activities she joined introduced her to some of her best friends, and she encourages others to branch out beyond their usual groups.

“Just making small talk with someone can go a long way.”
