Lowell Area Schools voters approved both millage proposals appearing on the Aug. 4 ballot, according to unofficial election results from Kent County.
The district’s operating millage proposal passed with 3,527 yes votes and 2,658 no votes. The proposal received 57.03% support, while 42.97% voted against it. A total of 6,185 votes were cast.
The sinking fund millage proposal passed by a much narrower margin. The proposal received 3,162 yes votes and 3,002 no votes, with 51.30% voting in favor and 48.70% voting against. A total of 6,164 votes were cast. The 51.30% was the lowest support for a proposal percentage-wise since 2013.
For the sinking fund proposal, 2,608 votes were cast on Election Day, 3,050 were cast by absentee ballot and 506 were cast during early voting.
The operating millage proposal passed by 869 votes, while the sinking fund proposal passed by 160 votes.
Since 2009, Lowell Area Schools funding proposals have received 66.3% support in 2009, 59.2% in November 2013, 66.5% in 2016, 67.5% in 2019, 61.2% in 2020, 51.8% in 2022 and 60.4% in 2024. A February 2013 sinking fund proposal received 46.7% support and failed.
