Young entrepreneurs from around the area will have a chance to showcase their work this Sunday as the West Michigan Young Adult Business Fair brings together local creators, photographers, bakers and small-business owners.
The event will take place Sunday, Sept. 27, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Rogers Neighborhood Realty and will feature several young entrepreneurs selling products, promoting their businesses and connecting with the community.
Lowell High School senior Olivia Landes, owner of Orose.handmade, helped organize the event alongside Pyper Gordon of Pyper Photography.
Landes said the idea began with a simple conversation about collaborating.
“Pyper had the idea to hold a teen business event after her and I had been talking about collaborating for a while,” Landes said. “We played around with the idea and thought we might as well post in Community Chatter to see if anywhere would even host us.”
That post quickly turned the idea into something larger.
“Out of nowhere, my old Girl Scout leader, Amanda Rogers, happened to comment and say we could host an event at her realty office,” Landes said. “It started as a small dream of a collaboration and expanded to hosting an event to promote ourselves and our local teen businesses.”
For Landes and Gordon, the fair is also about showing the community how many young entrepreneurs are already building businesses of their own.
“There’s quite a few young adult entrepreneurs, especially out of the current seniors, and we wanted everyone to know who we are and what we’re capable of,” Landes said.
Landes will be one of the vendors at the fair, selling clothing, bags and other handmade products through Orose.handmade. She will also offer custom-order opportunities, special deals and an interactive activity where visitors can draw their own shirt design.
Gordon will offer $5 mini photo sessions during the event through Pyper Photography, along with photo prints, booking opportunities and photography specials.
Several other young entrepreneurs will also participate.
Micah McDonald will be selling music and other merchandise, while Paige Heatherington of Ivy Grace Aesthetics will offer a variety of gift items, including soaps, candles, bracelets, charms, jewelry and more.
Kendra’s Cookies will also be on hand with cookies available for purchase. While Kendra is not a Lowell High School student, she will join the group of young business owners participating in the event.
Rogers Neighborhood Realty will host the fair and provide additional activities throughout the afternoon, including a photo backdrop and dirty sodas for attendees.
What began as an idea between two young entrepreneurs will now give several local business owners a chance to introduce themselves and their work to the community.
The West Michigan Young Adult Business Fair is a one-day event and will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at Rogers Neighborhood Realty.
